August 1st thru August 31, 2025 August Celebrations
I'm phoning it in again for August before I get too behind on my calendar. August is a great month for celebrations. Here are a few of my favorites: National Dog Month,
National Wellness Month, National Brownies at Brunch Month, National Immunization Awareness Month, International Peace Month, National Panini Month, Happiness Happens Month,
National Crayon Collection Month, and so many more.
July 14th thru July 31st, 2025 July is Ultraviolet (UV) Safety Awareness Month
I've gotten a little behind on my calendar. For the rest of July, I celebrated Ultraviolet (UV) Safety Awareness Month. Protect your eyes and skin from UV rays by
using sunscreen and minimizing exposure to direct sunlight. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Make sure that the sunscreen is broad-spectrum,
which will protect against both UVA and UVB rays. And, choose a water-resistant sunscreen if you’ll be spending time in the water. Get those eye exams, and get your
skin checked for skin cancer. I've got my sunscreen, my hat, and an umbrella to help protect me from those UV rays.

the negativity comes down on you, give up, give in, and shake it off!

My favorite dive bar in Port Townsend is the Hilltop Tavern. "What's your pleasure? Seahawks, pool, shuffleboard, craft beer, crap beer, BINGO, dancing, darts, laughing, CAH, pull tabs, FUN? We've got it all!"
Bingo nights for charity are my favorite. Check out some of the prizes:
Sunday, July 6, 2025 Umbrella Cover Day
Umbrella covers deserve our recognition for being on the front lines. Umbrellas keep us safe from rain and too much sun. And the covers keep the umbrellas safe from rain and too much sun.
But that begs the question, what keeps the umbrella cover safe? Here is our umbrella cover for our picnic table umbrella.

Thursday, June 19, 2025 Juneteenth
June 19, 1865 marks the end of slavery in the United States when Major General Gordon Granger went to Texas to inform enslaved people that slavery had been abolished.
Two years earlier the Emancipation Proclamation proclamation declared the abolishment of slavery, issued by President Abraham Lincoln, in 1863. It stated that "all persons held as slaves
within
any State or designated part of a State […] shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free." Granger’s arrival at Texas was to enforce this decree. Read more about Juneteenth.

Monday, June 16, 2025 Take Your Cat to Work Day
That's every day for me! Moe and Audrey are my lovely assistants. Moe "helps me" with meetings by putting me on mute when I am talking, taking me off mute when I am not talking, and sometimes
even deciding that I have had enough and kicking me out of meetings all together. But my co-workers understand. Moe even made it into one of the videos at work. Here's a screenshot.

And returned on the previous night.

Tuesday, April 15, 2025 Tax Day
Tax Day. We're going to pay our taxes no matter what. Whatever they tell us we owe, we will pay. Even if that money stops going back to the survival of the folks who have already
paid into this system, with their youth, bodies, minds, souls, and time, all of the priceless things that we have. We will pay, no matter what. And when that money just goes toward
millionaires and billionaires golfing and riding rocket ships into space, we will keep paying. I don't know why.
Monday, April 14, 2025 International Moment of Laughter Day
Here was my moment of laughter this morning on my walk. I'm not usually a fan of vandalism, but this one made me laugh.
Sunday, April 13, 2025 International Plant Appreciation Day

We still get our local snail paper via snail mail, The PT Leader. My favorite section is the Police Log. Here's another recent gem.
March 2: Officers were called to a local restaurant, where a bag of suspected methamphetamine was found in a bathroom. The meth has been safely stored, and if you believe it belongs to you, please contact the Port Townsend Police Department.
Sunday, April 6, 2025 National Food Faces Day
I see faces in things all the time. Here's a few food ones I've captured in the past year or so. I distressed pickle, a scary kohlrabi, an alien carrot, and a surpised burger grease.
Saturday, April 5, 2025 National Deep Dish Pizza Day
I got a goat cheese, tomato deep dish pizza.

I didn't take a walk today, but Tony did! Good for him. :)

I try as much as I can to support the local businesses. Pet Town is my favorite local pet supply store.
Friday, March 28, 2025 Wear a Hat Day
Ok, I didn't wear a hat today. But I'll use this holiday as an excuse to show off the beret that I made using a technique called "wet felting", a textile art form where wool fibers are bound together using water, soap, and agitation (friction) to create a durable, fabric-like material called felt.
Thursday, March 27, 2025 Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day
Here's a few good ones. Which ones are real and which ones do you think I made up?
Her Teeth Were Stained, But Her Heart Was Pure
If Love Were Oil, I'd Be A Quart Low
The Dog left me for the Cat
How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away?
I've Been Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart

Thank God for Spare Tires and Love Handles
When We Get Back To the Farm (That's When We Really Go To Town)

Friday, March 21, 2025 Crunchy Taco Day
Too lazy to make tacos. These will have to do.
Thursday, March 20, 2025 Spring Equinox
Today, both of the earth's hemispheres get equal amounts of sunlight. That is unless you think the earth is flat.
Wednesday, March 19, 2025 Let's Laugh about Poultry Day
This is another one that I sort of made up. It's both National Let's Laugh Day and National Poultry Day. It's always nice when you can celebrate two holidays on the same day. It's like
killing two birds with one stone. (Do you see what I did there?)
Tuesday, March 18, 2025 Oatmeal Cookie Day
Tony got me an oatmeal cranberry cookie from the Food Co-op. Nom Nom Nom!
Monday, March 17, 2025 St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day puns don't just shame you - they Seamus all. Bad Irish puns are just how eye roll.
Technically Ken Day is about celebrating Ken Carson, Barbie's boyfriend. But I celebrated him on Sunday (see Sunday, March 9th below). So today, I'll celebrate Ken Jeong.
He is a multi-talented comedian, actor, and he is actually a physician too! And he seems to be a kind, caring, good person. I loved him on "Community" and we love him as a panelist on
one of our favorite shows, "The Masked Singer".
Wednesday, March 12, 2025 National Plant a Flower Day
I got a headstart. I have been growing these Marigold "Gems" in the Aerogarden.
Tuesday, March 11, 2025 National Johnny Appleseed Day
Johnny Appleseed was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced trees grown with apple seeds. Apples
are my favorite fruit. They are easy, versatile, diverse, healthy and tasty. And an apple a day keeps the doctor away, especially if you throw it hard enough.
Monday, March 10, 2025 National Napping Day
Not a huge fan of daylight savings time. :(
Sunday, March 9, 2025 National Barbie Day
Even though it's National Barbie Day, I am going to celebrate Ken, who always has to play second fiddle to Barbie.
Saturday, March 8, 2025 Equal Pay Day
"Equal Pay Day is the symbolic day dedicated to raising awareness of the gender pay gap. In the United States, this date symbolizes how far into the year the median woman must work (in addition to their earnings last year) in order to have earned what the median man had earned the entire previous year. The exact day differs year by year."
This basically means that women have been working for free from January 1 to today, March 7th. Yay! Now we can start earning money again.
Throughout my career in software development, over and over again, I witnessed my male co-workers, with equal or lesser experience and education than me,
doing the same job, and being paid more than me, getting better benenfits and accomodations, and more opportunity. Anyone who thinks this doesn't happen is delusional. It's a fact of life and it's wrong. I'm not asking for
more. I am only asking to be treated the same and have equal opportunities and I think that should apply to everybody.
Friday, March 7, 2025 National Cereal Day
There are so many cereals to choose from - I'm going with Life. If Mikey likes it, then it must be good.
Thursday, March 6, 2025 National Oreo Cookie Day
My mom likes these thin, mint oreos.
Wednesday, March 5, 2025 International Open Data Day
This is a day to promote transparency and accessibility of data.
Although I'm not a huge sports fan, I do like the data behind sports because it's objective and freely available. One of my "data heros" is Billy Beane and the story behind
"Moneyball".
I am a very healthy eater. I am having a nice healthy bowl of rainbow carrots, and celery. :)
Monday, March 3, 2025 National Canadian Bacon Day
Do they call ham "just bacon" in Canada? A Canadian bacon and egg sandwich, wouldn't that be so good? Oh, now I can't afford eggs or Canadian bacon. :(
Sunday, March 2, 2025 International Rescue Cat Day
I just told Moe and Audrey that they are adopted!
Saturday, March 1, 2025 National Minnesota Day
For National Minnesota Day, please read about Chris Kluwe. He was a NFL punter for the Minnesota Vikings and he
was really good! But there's a lot more to him than his football career. He was one of the first NFL players to speak out (around 2012), stand up for people's rights, and he was punished for it.
And still today, he continues to speak out for what is right, and continues to be punished for it. He is a hero because he puts his own ambitions aside, uses his influence and platform to
speak up for what is right.
Friday, February 28, 2025 National Science Day and Dord Anniversay!
On February 28, 1939 a word that doesn't actually exist was discovered in the Merriam-Webster dictionary. The word was "Dord". It was supposed to be included in
abbreviations as "D or d" (uppercase or lowercase letter "d") to mean "Density" in chemistry. I think they should keep the word in the dictionary, but just change
it's definition to "the offspring of a dork and a nerd" or "dord".
Thursday, February 27, 2025 Happy Fat Albert Day!
Ok, I made this holiday up, sort of. Today is National Albert Day, a day to celebrate anyone and everyone named "Albert". It also happens to be Fat Thursday, a religious holiday
where people are supposed to overindulge on a bunch of unhealthy sweets, before starving yourself for a couple days. Hey! Hey! Hey! It's Fat Albert Day!
Wednesday, February 26, 2025 National Pistachio Day
Pistachios are not nuts. Like coconuts and almonds, they are drupes too. A serving of pistachios has as much protein as an egg and they have fiber and other nutrients. And they promote health benefits
including healthy gut bacteria, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, healthy blood sugar levels, improve blood vessel health, and promote better eye health and weight loss.
Tuesday, February 25, 2025 National Chocolate Covered Nut Day
I know this is cheating, but I don't actually have any chocolate covered "nuts". I have coconut bites with cacao nibs & dark chocolate, and tiny Tony's chocolonely's dark chocolate almond
